Listen up, you beautiful church casualty. If the last building you walked out of left you feeling more broken than blessed, if your “volunteer till you drop” season has you burnt out and bitter, or if Sunday mornings now feel like a bad rerun you can’t quit watching—good. Because Ephesians 1:3-7 isn’t another guilt-trip sermon. It’s a divine mic drop. A praise explosion that reminds you who you are now, not who you’re supposed to pretend to be. No performance review. No spiritual hamster wheel. Just raw, overflowing grace that was yours before the world even spun into existence.
This is the next beat in our “Who You Are Now” series—the one that started with that sneaky little greeting in Ephesians 1:1-2. Paul doesn’t waste time with small talk. He launches straight into a single, breathless run-on sentence in the original Greek (verses 3-14), loaded with superlatives and forward momentum like a worship anthem that refuses to end. It’s Trinitarian fire: the Father plans it, the Son accomplishes it, the Spirit seals it. And right here in verses 3-7, we get the opening movement—blessings cataloged from eternity past to the cross.
Here’s the passage in the New Living Translation, because sometimes the old-school wording softens the gut-punch:
³All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. ⁴Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. ⁵God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. ⁶So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. ⁷He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.
Boom. That’s your new identity. Not “try harder.” Not “do better.” This.
The Blessing Bash Starts Here (v. 3): Every Spiritual Goodie, No Strings Attached
“All praise to God…” Paul opens like a Hebrew worship leader at a feast—baruch atah Adonai, blessed be You, God. But he flips it: God isn’t the one waiting to be blessed by us. He’s already blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.
Every. Single. One.
Not some. Not the ones you earn after three years of perfect attendance and zero coffee spills in the sanctuary. Every spiritual blessing. Forgiveness? Check. Power? Check. Identity? Check. Purpose? Already stamped and delivered.
Church has trained too many of us to treat faith like a loyalty program—rack up enough points, maybe God throws you a bone. Paul laughs in the face of that nonsense. These blessings aren’t isolated prizes; they’re the full package of God’s redemptive activity. And they’re yours in Christ. That little phrase “in Christ” or “united with Christ” is the heartbeat of Ephesians. It’s not a cute bumper sticker. It’s your legal, spiritual, eternal zip code.
If you’re bored with church, this is your exit ramp from spectator Christianity. You don’t have to manufacture spiritual vibes. You’re already seated in the heavenly realms with the full inheritance. That’s not hype. That’s your now.

Becoming Unquittable:
Finding Hope When You're Broken, Burnt Out, & Bored of the Church
Whether you’re considering leaving your church or have already walked away, this book will help you find the hope, healing, and purpose you’ve been searching for.
Chosen Before the World Hit “Play” (v. 4): Holy and Blameless? Yeah, You
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”
Before atoms, before galaxies, before your great-great-grandparents ghosted God in the garden—He loved you and chose you. Not Israel-only anymore. Not the “good kids” in youth group. Gentiles like most of us? Now grafted in. The same word once reserved for God’s treasured possession (Deuteronomy 7:6-8) is now slapped on you.
“Holy” doesn’t mean you never scroll too long or snap at your spouse. It means set apart, belonging to God. “Blameless” isn’t moral perfection—it’s the intended result of being chosen. You stand before Him faultless because you’re in Christ.
Provocative truth for the broken: Church hurt often makes us feel like spiritual rejects. “If they kicked me out, God probably did too.” Nah. God chose you knowing every messy chapter. Before the foundation of the world. That pre-world choice laughs at your performance anxiety. You’re not on probation. You’re pre-approved.
This is the Unquittable Action that prevents brokenness: Actively listen to this truth and encourage speaking it over each other. Stop the silent shame spirals. Start declaring, “I am chosen. Holy. Blameless. In Christ.” Watch healing show up.
Predestined for Adoption—God’s Happy Family Plan (v. 5)
“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.”
Predestined. Proorizō in Greek—“to decide beforehand.” Not the creepy fatalism your weird uncle rants about on Facebook. This is a loving Father saying, “You’re mine. I planned this. It brings Me joy.”
In Paul’s world, adoption wasn’t a backup plan for barren couples. It was a powerful Roman legal move that gave an outsider full inheritance rights. You? Once a slave to sin, now a son or daughter with every heavenly perk. No more orphan spirit. No more “I’ll never measure up.”
This is rest for the burnt-out. You don’t have to hustle for the Father’s approval—He already decided in advance and it pleased Him. Monitor your workload, church. Give rest. The 6 Unquittable Actions aren’t more rules; they’re the natural overflow of knowing you’re already adopted.
Grace That Demands a Standing Ovation (v. 6)
“So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.”
The whole point? “To the praise of his glorious grace.” Election, predestination, adoption—it all lands on grace so lavish it makes you want to throw your hands up and shout.
Jesus is called “his dear Son”—the Beloved. That same love language once reserved for Israel or a favorite tribe now lands on Christ… and then splashes onto us. You belong to the Beloved.
If church has bored you into a coma, this is the cure. Grace isn’t a polite theological concept. It’s intoxicating. It fuels the Spiritual Rhythm of Partying—celebrating God’s goodness with joy, community, rest, and shared life. Grab some friends (even if it’s just two of you in a living room). Toast the cross. Laugh loud. This identity turns bored spectators into party-throwers.
Blood-Bought Freedom: The Richest Rescue Operation (v. 7)
“He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.”
Redemption. Apolytrōsis—the slave-market word. Someone paid the price to set you free. Not with cash. With blood. Jesus’ blood.
Forgiveness isn’t a cheap “it’s fine, bro.” It’s expensive grace—lavish, overflowing, according to the riches of His grace (and the next verse says He lavished it on us).
This is purpose for the bored and healing for the broken. You’re not defined by your worst trespass. You’re defined by the cross. Proclaim it. That’s the Unquittable Action that prevents boredom: Discover your passion and allow engagement. Your story of redemption is the sermon the world needs.

Who You Are Now: Time to Live Unquittable
So what? This isn’t head knowledge for Bible trivia night. This is your new operating system.
You are blessed with every spiritual blessing.
Chosen before time.
Adopted with pleasure.
Redeemed by blood.
Forgiven. Lavished.
That’s who you are now.
For the broken: Actively listen to the Father’s voice saying “chosen” and encourage speaking that truth in your small circle. Healing starts there.
For the burnt-out: Monitor workload. Give rest. You don’t earn adoption—you receive it.
For the bored: Discover your passion in proclaiming this grace. Allow engagement. The church of the future isn’t buildings and programs; it’s people living this identity.
Pursue Jesus daily with fresh hunger because He pursued you first.
Pray honest conversations that reshape your heart.
Proclaim this grace with courage—in your words, your story, your Netflix queue.
Provide your time and presence because you’ve been provided for.
Party like the adopted kid you are—joy, community, rest, shared life.
This passage doesn’t shame the quitters. It celebrates them into something better. The Unquittable Church isn’t for the flawless; it’s for the ones who finally believe they’re already holy and blameless in Christ.
So praise God for the glorious grace poured out on you, beloved.
You are not what church did to you.
You are not your burnout.
You are not your boredom.
You are blessed. Chosen. Adopted. Redeemed.
That’s who you are now.

Discussion Questions
5‑Day Devotional
Day 1: Already Blessed – No Hustle Required
Scripture:
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”
Reflection:
Church turned blessings into a cosmic loyalty program: rack up enough quiet times, casseroles, and “yes sir”s and maybe God throws you a bone. 2 Peter laughs in that face and says you already have everything you need. Not some. Not after you fix your mess. Every spiritual goodie is already stamped “delivered” because you’re in Christ. You’re not a spiritual beggar; you’re a walking inheritance check. Stop performing for what’s already yours, you gorgeous church casualty.
Unquittable Action:
To Prevent Brokenness: Actively Listen and Encourage Speaking
Practice:
Grab your phone or a mirror and read 2 Peter 1:3 out loud like you mean it. Then text one other burnt-out believer: “I’m already blessed with everything I need—what’s one way that wrecks your old script today?” Listen to their answer. No fixing, just affirming.
Prayer:
Jesus, I’m done earning what You already handed me on a platter. Help me listen to Your “already blessed” voice louder than the old church noise. And give me the guts to speak it over someone else today. Amen.
Day 2: Chosen Before the World Hit Play
Scripture:
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
Reflection:
Before atoms, galaxies, or your great-grandpa’s first bad decision, God looked at the hot mess you’d become and still said, “That one. Mine.” Not because you were impressive. Because He’s that extra. Church hurt made you feel like the spiritual reject who got voted off the island. 1 Peter flips the script: you’re the royal priesthood now. Holy? Set apart. Blameless? In His eyes, yes—because you’re chosen in Christ. Performance anxiety can take a seat.
Unquittable Action:
To Prevent Burnout: Monitor Workload and Give Rest
Practice:
Audit your calendar like a loving Father would. What one thing are you still doing “for God” that’s actually just for approval? Cut it or delegate it today. Then text your crew: “I’m resting because I’m already chosen—join me?” Nap, walk, stare at clouds. Rest is holy now.
Prayer:
God, You picked me before I ever tried to impress You. I’m done hustling for a spot I already have. Show me where I’m overworking and give me the courage to give myself—and others—some actual rest. Amen.
Day 3: Adopted and Actually Wanted
Scripture:
“And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, and now you cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’ So you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, everything he has belongs to you.”
Reflection:
In the Roman world adoption wasn’t Plan B for cute orphans—it was a power move that turned outsiders into full heirs. God did that for you. Not “maybe someday if you clean up your act.” He decided in advance and it gave Him great pleasure. No more orphan spirit, no more “I’ll never measure up.” You’re not a foster kid on probation. You’re the beloved child with the family credit card and zero performance review.
Unquittable Action:
To Prevent Boredom: Discover Passion and Allow Engagement
Practice:
Ask the Father (out loud if you’re brave): “What passion did You build into me for Your kingdom?” Then do one small thing this week that lights you up—text that friend, serve that neighbor, create that thing—and actually engage. No spectators allowed.
Prayer:
Abba, I’m not a slave anymore—I’m Your kid. Wake up the passion You planted in me and give me the guts to engage instead of zoning out on the back row. I want to live like I actually belong here. Amen.
Day 4: Grace That Demands a Standing Ovation
Scripture:
“Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.”
Reflection:
Grace isn’t polite theological wallpaper. It’s grace upon grace—like God keeps pouring until you’re drunk on it. Church bored you into a coma with rules disguised as relationship. This? This is intoxicating. You belong to the Beloved, and the same love that landed on Jesus just splashed all over you. Time to throw your hands up and shout instead of slouching through another Sunday.
Unquittable Action / Spiritual Rhythm:
Partying – Celebrating God’s goodness with joy, community, rest, and shared life
Practice:
Grab two people (even if it’s just a group text) and throw a mini “grace party.” Toast something ridiculous God’s done, laugh loud, share one way this identity is wrecking your old boredom, and rest in it together. No agenda. Just joy.
Prayer:
Jesus, Your grace is ridiculous and I’m done acting like it’s boring. Fill me with so much of it that I can’t help but party with others. Turn my spectator seat into a dance floor. Amen.
Day 5: Blood-Bought Freedom – The Richest Rescue
Scripture:
“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
Reflection:
Redemption wasn’t a clearance-rack sale. Someone paid top dollar—His own blood—to yank you out of the slave market. You’re not defined by your worst trespass or that last church exit. You’re the walking proof that expensive grace actually works. Proclaim it loud, because your story of freedom is the sermon the bored and broken are starving for.
Unquittable Action / Spiritual Rhythm:
Proclaiming – Speaking God’s truth with courage through your words, your story, and the way you live
Practice:
Tell your redemption story this week—no polish, just real talk—to one person who needs it. At work, over tacos, wherever. Then listen to theirs. Watch healing and purpose show up like clockwork.
Prayer:
Jesus, You paid for my freedom with Your blood. I’m done letting shame or boredom define me. Give me the courage to proclaim this grace like the adopted kid I am. Let my story point others home. Amen.
